IAPAE Intern

Emily Spellman

IAPAE Intern

Emily Spellman has been welcomed as the IAPAE intern, where she will contribute to the growth and advancement of the Physician Associate (PA) profession on a global scale. A board-certified Physician Associate (PA-C), she recently completed her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at Sacred Heart University, focusing on trauma surgery and orthopedics. Her clinical training and educational background have strengthened her commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate care while working toward expanding healthcare access.

During her time in the Master’s program, Emily served as the AAPA Student Representative for Sacred Heart University, where she attended multiple leadership conferences and events, gaining valuable insights into the PA profession’s evolving role in healthcare. Prior to her PA studies, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Science from Sacred Heart University, concentrating on both public and global health.

As an undergraduate, Emily became deeply involved with BuildOn, a non-profit organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty, illiteracy, and low expectations through education and service. Through BuildOn’s mission, she had the privilege of traveling to Nepal, Senegal, and Malawi, where she collaborated with local communities to build schools and empower urban youth to drive positive change. In her role as Vice President of Sacred Heart’s chapter, she witnessed firsthand the profound impact of community-based initiatives and developed a lifelong passion for service and social justice.

These experiences have shaped Emily’s worldview and inspired her to pursue a profession that integrates clinical excellence with compassionate care. The opportunity to intern with IAPAE aligns perfectly with her passion for expanding the PA profession and advocating for improved healthcare access and education globally. As she begins her work with the IAPAE, she is eager to contribute to initiatives that will help pave the way for PAs worldwide.
