David Fahringer

Professor David Fahringer retired on June 30, 2023 after 35 years as Associate Professor in the Physician Assistant Program, Department of Health Services, College of Health Sciences, University of Kentucky, Lexington, Kentucky (USA). Prof. Fahringer holds two undergraduate degrees and a master in Public Health. He also holds two professional degrees in radiology and as a Physician Assistant. Since 1994, he has been teaching in the Physician Assistant Program at the University of Kentucky until his retirement.

At the national level he has served in Physician Assistant Education Association (PAEA) in the following areas: on the Membership Committee, PAEA graduate advisory to SAAAPA, and the Chair of IAC. Internationally, he introduced the PA concept to Great Britain in 1995, by sending PA clinical students to England every year and going there to develop the concept twice a year until 2010. He is one of four founders of the International Academy for Physician Associate Education, started in 2007. He started the first PA program in the Middle East in Saudi Arabia in 2010 with George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates at Prince Sultan Military College of Health Sciences serving as the Program Director. Prof. Fahringer returned back to the University of Kentucky in 2012 as the Interim Chair and Program Director of the PA Studies in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies.

In 2019, he developed the Post Graduate Education Unit in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies. In this new unit he created the first PA Academic Residency Program with two tracks: Medicine with sub-tracks and Surgery with sub-tracks which grew from five residency seats to 18 residency seats by the fourth cohort. Recently, he launched his new business, Global Networking Consultant Services, LLC, in July 2023.
