DeShana G. Collett, Ph.D., PA-C, has over 22 years of experience as a physician assistant and 17 years in PA education. She recently served as a full professor with tenure at the University of Kentucky PA program for 17 years. During her tenure there, she held leadership roles in admissions, recruitment, program evaluation, and accreditation. During her tenure as Chairwoman of the National Board of Commissioners for the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), she was instrumental in advancing the national accreditation standards and policies. Her leadership emphasizes collaboration, diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a strong commitment to improving healthcare through education. She has been involved in the progress of international PA/P analogues and is the current Chair of the IAPAE Education Committee.

With over two decades of experience as a physician assistant and 17 years in PA education, Dr. Collett has dedicated my career to advancing the profession through leadership, innovation, and a commitment to excellence. While serving as a tenured full professor at the University of Kentucky, she led initiatives in admissions, recruitment, program evaluation, and accreditation that strengthened the foundation of PA education and expanded opportunities for future practitioners.

As Chairwoman of the National Board of Commissioners for the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), and now Immediate Past Chair, she works to elevate national accreditation standards and policies that ensure program quality and accountability. Dr. Collett’s leadership is grounded in collaboration and guided by principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion—values essential to building a more just and effective healthcare workforce.

Internationally, Dr. Collett is proud to contribute to the growth of global PA/PA-analogue models as Chair of the IAPAE Advocacy and Education Committee. She believes that by sharing knowledge, fostering innovation, and strengthening partnerships across borders, we can improve healthcare access and outcomes worldwide.

Dr. Collett continues to advocate for excellence in education, equity in opportunity, and unity across our profession to ensure that the PA community remains a driving force in advancing global health.
