Advocacy & Education Committee

The Advocacy and Education Committee composed of volunteers from the IAPAE membership, works to promote the recognition and value-add of PA/PA Analogue educators and education programs globally. The Committee is developing accreditation standards, minimum competencies and a global framework for PA/PA Analogue programs

Committee Terms of Reference

  1. Serve as the advocacy arm of IAPAE for promoting PA/PA Analogue educators and education programs, leading to best practices of health science education and clinical training
  2. Serve as a resource for teaching, learning and training of PA/PA Analogue educational programs
  3. Serve as the global accreditation body for PA/PA Analogue educational programs

Dr. DeShana Collett is a distinguished Professor in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies and the Rehabilitation Sciences PhD Program at the University of Kentucky, where she also serves as Chair of the University Senate Council. A three-time alumna of the University of Kentucky, she holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Studies in Higher Education, an M.S. in Physician Assistant Studies, and a B.S. in Biology. Throughout her career, Dr. Collett has received numerous awards for her contributions to education and leadership, including recognition as an academic fellow in the Southeastern Conference Academic Leadership Development Program and honors from the Pi Alpha National PA Honor Society.

With over 20 years of clinical experience in family medicine, Dr. Collett has made substantial contributions to teaching, research, and program development. Her expertise spans didactic and clinical instruction, research supervision, and curriculum development. She has directed numerous master’s research projects and doctoral committees on topics ranging from health literacy to hypertension management. Dr. Collett has also played a crucial role in revising the UKPAS curriculum and has contributed significantly to research on student performance metrics and healthcare disparities.

Dr. Collett is deeply engaged in professional service, currently chairing the National Board of Commissioners for the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). Her leadership journey within the University Senate began in 2016, leading to pivotal roles such as Senate Rules and Election Committee Chair. Beyond her university commitments, she is active in her community as a Board of Trustee member for Sayre School and has participated in various committees focused on education and inclusion. Dr. Collett’s extensive background reflects her dedication to advancing higher education and physician assistant training.
