Regional Director – North, Central and South America

Laura Juarez is a professor and practicing surgical physician associate/asociado médico based in Puerto Rico. She earned a Master of Physician Assistant Studies and a Master of Public Health from the University of Utah and Doctorate of PA Studies from Touro University, Nevada.

Laura has been instrumental in shaping the landscape of PA education and the asociado médico profession in Puerto Rico, co-founding and serving as President of the first chapter for PAs in Puerto Rico under the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA), serving as the inaugural Academic Coordinator for the first PA program in Puerto Rico at San Juan Bautista School of Medicine and co-authoring a PA practice act and House of Delegates resolution.

Through the lens of public health, she views PA education as a way to reduce health disparities and increase access to care while establishing a sustainable health workforce. Laura is involved in international healthcare initiatives, participating in trips to underserved regions of Haiti, India, Thailand, and Myanmar. Her dedication to delivering exceptional and evidence-based patient care embodies IAPAE’s goals of global engagement and service.
